A little less hurry. A little more Lisbon.

Take the scenic way

Follow Alfama’s cobbled lanes and pause at Santa Luzia as the rooftops open towards the river. Give the view a little longer than planned.

A Portuguese custard tart02 · Pastel de nata

A little taste of Lisbon

Coffee, crisp pastry and silky custard. In Belém, Pastéis de Belém has followed its traditional recipe since 1837. A lovely reason to take a seat.

End the day by the water

Head west to Belém Tower. Notice the stonework, feel the breeze from the Tagus and linger as the light changes over the water.

Our suggestion · two unhurried days

A weekend worth lingering over

Day one · the old city

Rooftops, wandering and fado

Start with coffee in Baixa. Spend the afternoon wandering Alfama, with a pause at Santa Luzia. For the evening, look for a fado performance and book ahead.

Day two · along the Tagus

Pastries and a river breeze

Make Belém your day out: a pastry stop, gardens and the riverside. Pick one museum if you feel like it, then finish with a walk near the tower. Check opening times before you go.
